Our Research

The research we conduct is based on sensory science, psychology and neuroscience.

At Zazen Audio, we focus on the intersection of game audio, spatial audio, perception, and psychology. We explore how these areas intertwine and how they can be used to create compelling, immersive audio experiences.

We use a range of cutting-edge tools and techniques to help understand what makes the best audio experience possible. Our network of researchers and engineers have a great understanding of the psychological effects of sound and how to use it to create a truly captivating experience.

Patrick Flanagan

Principal Investigator

I have over 10 years of experience in audio technology, human behavior, and psychology research, I am also the Chief Technology Officer at Moea Technologies, a company that develops novel approaches for sports-based simulations using the power of audio, spatial processing, computer vision, and psychology. I am also pursuing a PhD in Psychology at Fielding Graduate University, where I explore the cognitive and emotional aspects of sound perception and processing.

My passion is to create immersive and engaging audio experiences that enhance the performance and enjoyment of users in various domains, such as gaming, entertainment, and education. I have conducted and published multiple user research studies on audio quality and product performance, and collaborated with academic and industry partners, such as NYU and Logitech, on the psychology of immersion related to spatial audio processing in video games. My goal is to advance the innovation and immersion for gaming audio experiences, and to apply my psychoacoustics expertise to other fields and applications.
